MOVING MEDITATION INSTRUCTOR
Keith Cowley is an instructor of moving meditation, derived from years of practice in the foundations of Qigong, Tai Chi, and Baguazhang. Since the 90’s he had been captivated by martial styles, and was an experimental practitioner of various forms until he discovered Baguazhang in the early 2000’s. The circular physics and coiling power resonated with him and he started down an obsessive path training from books, videos and seminars. That of course changed when he met an instructor named Roosevelt Gainey in Coney Island who instilled in him the importance of the foundational training from a meditative, whole-systems perspective rooted in structure, breath and intention. After a few in-depth weekends in NYC, Cowley was convinced that it was the most important training he could do and lost interest in pursuing a lineage-based martial journey.
Cowley built upon what he had learned and continued to train, eventually catching the interest of a few accomplished students. For over seven years he taught foundational training in downtown Westerly, RI in the form of a focus group while he continued to learn about Sun Style Tai Chi from a distant family member Gary Donovan. He also learned how to open up specific areas of the body using Qigong with Shifu Jiang-Jianye. Even though Cowley had a limited and unconventional training background, he was welcomed to teach several workshops over the years at World Tai Chi & Qigong Day in Connecticut which helped him refine his understanding of the way the fundamentals are taught and received. Since then he has continued to refine his practice, pairing it with the psychology that comes with mastering traditional earth skills, while finding it just as useful in his conservation work and getting closer to wildlife. He offers classes and workshops to individuals interested in developing skills that result in deep awareness and connectedness in nature.
